Medstrom’s Requirements
As part of our customers growth plans, they were expanding their service centres with the introduction of 5 new service sites located in Harlow, Cardiff, Sheffield, Belfast, and Southern Ireland.
Our relationship with Medstrom had developed and strengthened over the 5 years of supporting their heating and cooling requirements and with many gas-fired heating installations completed at their sites over those years, Medstrom was now keen to move away from gas in favour of electric as their preferred fuel type to support their commitments to the environment and journey to becoming carbon neutral.
Medstrom came to OKEL needing heating solutions for each of these new sites. Our relationship with Medstrom had developed and strengthened over the previous five years, during which we had worked with them on a number of significant projects. This included providing warm air heating solutions across five sites in 2018-19 and a warehouse cooling system in 2020.
While our previous work had focused on gas-fired heating installations, Medstrom was now keen to move away from gas in favour of electric as their preferred fuel type. The switch to electric would help them fulfil their commitments to the environment and accelerate their journey to becoming carbon neutral.

OKEL’s Solution
Through our previous work with Medstrom, we had developed a strong knowledge of their temperature control requirements, including the ideal temperature for the work taking place across their service centres. As a result, we were able to continue with our previous approach whilst adapting it slightly by replacing the gas-fired feature with 3-phase electrics.
For each of our customer’s new sites, we chose to install Winterwarm 3-phase EH electric warm air heaters. These have much of the same functionality as the gas-fired equivalent that Medstrom is already familiar with, such as the modulation feature and gradient control.
As with our previous gas-fired installations for Medstrom, we also factored into our designs the introduction of Winterwarm WCU destratification fans. This would minimise heat loss from above, which in turn will reduce energy consumption and associated energy bills.
The Results
Since the initial electric heating installations in November and December 2022, Medstrom has embraced the greener and more environmentally friendly fuel type and gone on to replace some of their older gas-fired warm air heating systems with the Winterwarm EH electric heater systems.
“Absolutely first-class service and workmanship, we have been very happy since choosing Okel to fit heating at many sites up and down the country for us. The team at Okel has been responsive, and very accommodating with us too, having opened multiple sites in the past year, without giving them much notice. They have provided cost-effective solutions to both large and small premises, all very neatly installed. I would not hesitate to use Okel again”
