Commercial Warm Air Heating Services and Factory Heating Solutions

OKEL were approached by our client in October 2018 to assist with their expansion plans which required the introduction of high efficiency heating solutions for a newly acquired factory premises (approx. 15,200 sq ft) located in Derbyshire and soon to be refurbished.

OKEL Solution

A site survey of the premises took place were OKEL were advised that our client was hoping to be fully operational in their new factory within 6 months.

Modern building materials were to be used throughout the refurbishment which meant that the building was well insulated, and we were advised by our client that there was an existing natural gas supply of maximum 275 kw and no plans or wish to increase the capacity.

Taking into consideration the maximum kw load available for the heating solution, OKEL designed a warm air system which consisted of 3 x high efficiency wall mounted TR units specifically designed for heating large industrial space such as factories and warehouses. 

Due to the maximum height of the ceiling (approx. 12m) it was important to provide a solution which ensures warm air from the heaters remains on the lower ground where it’s of most benefit to the work force and production.

Warm Air Factory Heating System

To reduce the loss of heat from above OKEL chose warm air heaters with integral destratification fans which would force the warm air back down to the lower level once the heaters gradient controls and temperature sensors had identified that the ceiling temperature was becoming too hot. 

In addition to the heater’s integral fans OKEL’s designs introduced several heavy duty destratification fans which were to be evenly distributed at ceiling height to assist with an even spread of heat throughout the factory.

The Carbon Trust estimates that the use of destratification fans in industrial buildings with high ceilings and operating a warm air heating system can reduce energy consumption by 20%.

In addition to the destratification benefits mentioned above, destratification can also provide summer ventilation when the outside temperatures start to rise.

Installation and hand over

A pre installation engineer site visit took place ahead of the installation to determine with the help of our client the exact positioning of the heaters and fans which would allow for the most even spread of heat whilst considering the layout of the factory.

As part of our client’s project timeline OKEL requested that our team of engineers were to be first team of tradesmen working on site so that the working at height could be completed before refurbishment activities started to take place on the ground floor. 

Works were completed in February 2019 and upon project completion our client received a full handover to ensure staff were confident on the capabilities of the heaters and able to maximise the efficiencies by effective use of the intelligent thermostatic controls.

Electronic copies of Gas Safe and NICEIC certification and user guides for the heaters and fans were forwarded to the client to retain on file.

Since the project was completed OKEL have been approached to complete a similar warm air heating installation at another of our clients’ new factory premises – Installation scheduled for September 2019.
