Client: Large 2 storey social club located in Lancashire
Main Concerns: The club was being heated by an obsolete boiler more than 50 years old with combined running costs for gas and electric in the region of £17,000 per annum.
At the time of visiting the club the premises were without heating as the existing boiler had broken down and a local engineer had quoted more than £1000 to repair the faulty unit, subject to being able to locate a part for the now obsolete boiler. Delays in repairing the boiler was having an impact on the club’s profits, cold temperatures were preventing regular members from visiting the club, with many refusing to return until the heat was back up and running.
Upon inspection of the obsolete boiler our Business Solutions Manager strongly advised our client not to spend large amounts of money attempting to repair the obsolete unit. It was already only 50% as effective as more modern units’ due to age, and would continue to cost the club money to repair every time it broke down.
- To have the heat back up and running as a matter of urgency
- Provide an energy efficient and cost effective commercial heating solution
- Ability to pay monthly to spread the installation costs
- Minimal maintenance costs
OKEL Solution: The efficiency of a boiler will naturally diminish with age, forcing energy bills to rise, along with costs to maintain the equipment.
Our proposal was to upgrade our client’s heating system, installing 2 of our manufacturers award winning modern, high efficiency condensing boilers. The Band A boiler provides maximum efficiency (99.3% efficient) with lowest emissions and lowest life time costs. Each of the units is built using only quality metal or brass components as our manufacturers units are built to last and be the best in terms of reliability.
For our clients project we proposed wall mounted units, however alternative options were available including inline, back to back or free standing.
A brazed heated plate exchanger was also suggested as part of the project, to enable the existing cast iron pipe work and radiators to be reused, whilst preventing cross contamination and risks associated with pressuring a system of this age; including burst pipe work and leaks.
By investing in a new heating system, our client could also be reassured of comprehensive extended manufacturer’s warranty on parts and labour, removing costs associated with maintaining the equipment.
Installation: Our team of Gas Safe engineers commenced work within 1 week of our client agreeing to purchase the new heating system, working outside of the club’s core operational hours, preventing any disturbance to trade whilst the club was open to the public. All works were completed within 7 days and the new boilers commissioned by our projects lead engineer and gas safety certificates issued upon completion.
Funding the Project
Funding the Project: Our client chose to take advantage of an OKEL Green Funding Payment Plan, enabling costs to be spread over affordable monthly payments. By installing the modern high energy efficient boilers, our client would make substantial monthly savings on their energy bills, therefore enabling these savings to be off set against the monthly repayments and the project funding itself.
